6 Weeks - An Update

My little guy is six weeks old this week! That is so hard to believe. He's a little update on how things are going with us...

Me:

-I had my six week check up with the ob-gyn. Everything seems to be back in working order and she cleared me for exersize and sex. (As if I really had time for either at this moment.) She also wrote me a prescription for birth control pills that will not interfere with my breast feeding. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go back to pills. Prior to getting pregnant I charted my temps for a few months as a form of birth control. I liked the idea of not putting the extra hormones in my body and knew that since we were planning on starting to "try" soon anyways, that was as good of a time as any to try out that method. If I botched it up then we would just be getting pregnant a few months earlier than planned. Now however, is a different story. With this little one at home getting pregnant with another any time in the near future would be a disaster. I definitely don't want my babies that close together. I filled the prescription but haven't officially decided whether or not to take it yet...

-I have lost all but 5 pounds of the baby weight. I have been pretty thrilled with the bounce back considering I haven't been doing anything to help myself out other than breast feeding. I still have my linea nigra though... I am hoping that fades by summer time. I am fitting into all my old clothing and jeans but I do have some extra flab and stretched out skin in my belly. You can only really tell when I wear tighter jeans. There is a little of that "muffin top" look in the front. It didn't really bother me until I went and got a pedicure. The salon had those vibrating massage chairs and lets just say that there was definitely some jigging going on when the chair was turned on. Not attractive.

-Mentally I am doing pretty great other than the lack of consecutive night sleep. He really is a pretty easy baby. I am definitely getting cabin fever though. I want to be able to get out and take walks in the park with my boy! I still haven't gotten out to do my mall walking though but am actually planning on trying it out tomorrow. I haven't even used the stroller yet, so I should probably figure that out first. I am so lucky to have my Mom here in town. She still comes over three or four days a week so I am able to get out on my own for two hours at a time to run errands, get the pedicure mentioned above, etc. Hubby and I even had a two hour "mini date" at a restaurant down the street over the weekend while my Mom stayed home with the baby. I think that has really helped out my mental state.

Baby:

-We took him in for his 6 week check up yesterday. He is now 12 pounds, six ounces and 23.5 inches long. (8 pounds 5 ounces and 21.5 inches long at birth.) That puts him in the 75 percentile for height and weight. He's a big boy!

-I sort of thought that considering his size he would be coming close to sleeping through the night by now. That's definitely not the case. Occasionally he'll do a four hour session, but he'll follow it with a two and a half hour one. We average a feeding every three hours-- day and night. Hopefully I'll get some relief soon!

-It's amazing to see how much control of his head he has now. He doesn't even hate tummy time anymore although he definitely prefers doing it on my belly than on the floor. The smiles are becoming more frequent every day. For some reason it is the easiest to get him to smile when I'm changing his diaper. Aren't babies supposed to hate that?! I guess seeing his mommy wipe his poopy bottom is funny.

I haven't uploaded any pics this last week but I'll be sure to get some up here asap!

Sounds like you are doing great, Anna! I'm sure NO ONE noticed the jiggle at the nail salon besides you. I've never had a kid, and I jiggle in those seats. :)
