Greece Trip Continued - Santorini! - Part 1

After visiting the Acropolis in the morning we hopped on a 45 minute flight to Santorini. Upon our arrival we hopped into a transfer van that took us to our hotel, Dana Villas. It was sort of hard to figure out because the van dropped us off on the side of an unassuming street where two guys that didn't speak any English were waiting for us. They threw our 50 pound suitcases on their back and took off down a zillion steps. They must have thighs of steel because I had a hard time keeping up. (We were doing DOWN the steps, mind you.) I couldn't figure out where we were going...and then we saw it....

Our hotel consisted of many separate villas perched on the side of a cliff. We checked in and the same guys took our bags down another hundred steps to our villa. (Seriously, if we would have had to deal with our own bags we never would have made it.) Our villa was a perfect little two story bungalow.

Here is the view from our balcony/patio. Seriously? It felt like I was in another world. If you looked down from our patio you saw the pool and breakfast area.

That afternoon we did a little exploring of our "neighborhood," Firostephani. That night we had another great Greek Meal. After that...we crashed. Travel is exhausting!

After waking up refreshed the next day we had breakfast at the hotel and set off on a two hour hike to the town of Oia. This was probably our favorite part of the trip. The pictures don't do it justice.

Finally we arrived in Oia.

We walked down another zillion steps (Are you sensing a trend here? Do NOT go to Santorini with any physical disabilites. You'll never make it. My legs are still sore!) to Ammoudi Beach. (A little town underneath Oia with a port and small beach area.)

I didn't take this picture, but it is a better shot of the steps. See that stone path zig zagging up the side of the cliff? .....I wasn't kidding!!!

We also went back UP the steps. My thighs are trembling at the site of it. (I complain, but I really loved every minute of it....definitely burned off all of that wine and cheese!)

After a little more time in Oia we took the bus back to our town where we relaxed on our patio and watched another sunset. That night we walked 15 minutes to the town of Fira for dinner and a little more Ouzo. :)

Whew...this was the day that we took the most photos. The other days should be quicker!
